You probably know this, but let's take a look anyway. In order to reduce weight you should burn up more energy than you actually eat. Once the energy has been burned your body needs to discover energy from somewhere else, and that's exactly what your body fat is - stored energy, to be used at a later date. If you are into motor cars and motorbikes, body fat is like a reserve fuel tank, you only use it once your normal supply of fuel has expired.

There are two methods of encouraging this absence of energy; one of them is to consume less food, the other is to increase your physical activity (otherwise known as exercise) so that you burn even more energy and therefore burn up yet more body fat.

Now, the basics are easy to understand are they not, therefore why can'tI lose weight?

Well, if it was that easy, you wouldn't see 50% of the population standing around carrying dangerous levels of body fat. There is evidently something else to it than basically eatting less and exercising more, we all are aware of what we need to be doing, therefore what is preventing us?

Over the years - especially in recent times - the media have drummed into us the idea that we should go on a slimming diet. The issue with diets - in spite of what the media say - is that they don't result in success. Over 90% of slimmers struggle to reduce weight long term.

Diets are miserable, restrictive programs which are doomed to fail from the start on account of their restrictions. Nobody likes to live their lives eating the ridiculous items that constitute the majority of modern diets. Certainly, a great number of them are disguised to look as if they are "healthy" diets, endorsed by nutritionists, but the truth is that they're all so restrictive that there is solely one thing that they will guarantee - failure.

Occasionally, very strong-willed individuals manage to stay on their slimming diets for quite a long time - maybe 12 months. Of Course while you're following a diet to the "T" you are very likely to reduce weight, but the problems appear once you remove yourself from the diet. If you stop dieting, what happens to your weight? You put it all back on naturally!

Hardly surprising you are left asking "why can'tI lose weight?"

So what is the solution? Certainly make changes to your daily food intake, but only make changes which have the potential to be permanent. Change to skimmed milk, use a sugar alternative, refrain from frying your food - broil or boil or steam it, use low fat spreads. Not one of these measures is too difficult to maintain, but together they will help towards reducing weight permanently.

Having discovered all of this, certainly now you don't need to ask "Why can'tI lose weight?
